Cambridge High
Cambridge High School is a state secondary school in the Waikato town of Cambridge. It currently has 1,250 students and is a decile 9 school. 24-7 YouthWork started in the school in 2008. Currently there are three Youth Workers from Raleigh Christian Centre and Bridges Church in the school

How long have you been a 24-7 Youth Worker?
I started out in 2006 when our church first took on 24-7.
What do you love about being a 24-7 Youth Worker?
I love the sense of being 'available' for such a massive group of students - students who I wouldn't otherwise have an opportunity to know. It gets you out of your own little world and helps you join in with and support a much larger community.
What was your reason for getting into 24-7 Youth Work?
I wanted to be able to connect with teenagers on their turf. I had been working with young people from my church for years but they were a fairly sheltered bunch. I got sick of being disconnected from most of the youth in Cambridge.
What would be your greatest piece of advice to young people?
Surround yourself with good people and learn from them (hint hint: youth workers...).

I'm a bit of a closet girly chick flick lover so in that case it'd be some cheesy romance like Everafter or even, dare I say it. . . . The Princess Bride - gotta love the classics. Or if I'm watching with the boys the Bourne trilogy was pretty cool.

Coming up 5 months in May 2009! We all gotta start somewhere ;)
What do you love about being a 24-7 Youth Worker?
I love the fact that I can just hang out with the students at CHS. Its awesome just to sit and chat with them about whats going on.
What was your reason for getting into 24-7 Youth Work?
Maria asked, and at first I thought 'No way, high school was hard enough the first time!' But then I thought how cool it would be to be able to walk with these guys and try to help them see how awesome they are and how much they have to contribute to the world around them.
What would be your greatest piece of advice to young people?
Be true to who you are, its way too much work trying to be someone else and not as much fun!

What do you love about being a 24-7 Youth Worker?
I love working with the leaders of the school and inspiring them to make a difference in their school. Its a very cool feeling to be able to say 'yep sure we can help'.
What was your reason for getting into 24-7 Youth Work?
I feel that schools should be supported by their community, otherwise the task of educating and developing young people is way to daunting. They shouldn't have to do it alone!
What would be your greatest piece of advice to young people?
Treat others as you would have them treat you!

I've been a 24-7 Youth Worker since the beginning of 2008.
What do you love about being a 24-7 Youth Worker?
Being able to hang out with a huge range of young people, battling against them in coin rugby or hackey sack, and being able to learn heaps about other people's favourite hobbies. Makes Trivial Pursuits way easier.
What was your reason for getting into 24-7 Youth Work?
I have a passion for working with youth, and had seen the great work other 24-7 Youth Workers were doing - and I really wanted to be a part of it!
What would be your greatest piece of advice to young people?
Try and make the world a bit better each day, and laugh a lot.

What do you love about being a 24-7 Youth Worker?
I have a title other than "poor student" Having an opportunity to connect with the youth in our community. Being paid to hang out with teenagers!
What was your reason for getting into 24-7 Youth Work?
I wanted to learn from people who were already out in the community. As well as making a difference at school.... but I haven't got that far yet :-)
What would be your greatest piece of advice to young people?
My Dad once said to me "all butterflies must be set free" - I don't know what he meant... but what I take from it is that we have the opportunity to do some AWESOME things ……. Take the opportunities you are given, if you don't someone else will!
