Burnside High School
Burnside High is the second biggest school in New Zealand with over 2,600 students. It was established in 1960 and is located in south east Christchurch. 24-7 YouthWork started in the school in 2006. Currently there are four Youth Workers from Avonhead Baptist, St Christophers, St Margarets Presbyterian and Christchurch Chinese Church in the school.

What do you love about being a 24-7 Youth Worker?
I love getting to hang out with young people all the time, sharing in their stories and seeing them develop and grow.
What was your reason for getting into 24-7 Youth Work?
My reason for getting into youth work is I love a being part of helping young people reach their full potential, whether it be academically or in extracurricular activities.
What would be your greatest advice?
My advice would be to pursue every great opportunity presented to you.

What do you love about being a 24-7 Youth Worker?
Going back to high school!!
Getting to know more young people and hopefully have a positive influence in their lives. Having fun with other youth workers and organise fun events for the high school studnets.
What was your reason for getting into 24-7 Youth Work?
I love being there for the youth because high school is can be really tough for teenagers and have major impacts on their lives. Also I have a heart to see Asian kids mixing with the kiwi kids and see the international students settle down in a foreign country.
What would be your greatest advice?
My greatest advice to the students would be to be themselves and make friends by being who they are. I would also tell them to be nice to other people because the way you treat others will be the way others will treat you.

What do you love about being a 24-7 Youth Worker?
I love that I have been given the privilege to be a part of young peoples lives, and to be able to watch them grow as they journey through life.
What was your reason for getting into 24-7 Youth Work?
I love to see people grow strong in themselves. A transformation to self confidence and positivity that rubs off on other people. It makes them stand out, and it excites me. It creates a good foundation for life. And I feel that 24-7 YW allows me to utilise the skills and passions I already have, and use them in the most effective way.
What would be your greatest piece of advice to young people?
The world needs you as yourself, far more than you need its approval.
